Christopher Edward Whalen, age 52, of Grand Haven passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017. Chris was born November 17, 1964 to the late Urban & Martha (McCann) Whalen in Big Rapids, Michigan. He married Kimberly Urbanik on August 26, 1989 in Grand Haven. Chris was the co-owner of WAK Plastic Machinery and a plastics engineer. He was a member of the American Legion, Charles A. Conklin, Post #28, Grand Haven Eagles #925, Grand Haven Elks Lodge #1200 & the Society of Plastics Engineers. Chris enjoyed music, playing piano & guitar. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, traveling & woodworking. He loved to spend time at the family cabin on the Betsie River. Chris is lovingly remembered by his wife, Kimberly; sons, Nicholas Whalen & Ian Whalen; sisters, RoseAnn (Dave) Woodliff, Colleen (Ed) Casper, Alice (Tom) Christensen & Shelia (Ed) Guthrie; brothers, Robert (Olya) Whalen, Brian (Kim) Whalen, Kevin (Laura) Whalen, Ron (Uma) Whalen & Michael (Maureen) Whalen; mother-in-law, Arlene Urbanik; brothers-in-law, Peter (Karen) Urbanik & Jeff (Karen) Urbanik; and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Urban & Martha (McCann) Whalen and father-in-law, Robert Urbanik. A Funeral Service for Christopher will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017 at St Patrick-St. Anthony Catholic Church with Fr. Ken Schichtel presiding. Visitation will be Friday, October 6, 2017 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Klaassen Family Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to the Service on Saturday. Full Military Rites will be performed by the American Legion, Charles A. Conklin, Post #28. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of North Ottawa Community.
