I was an LPN for a few years before I landed at GHSP in the Test Lab to work with James. I did home care pediatrics for children like Mikayla so I got a small taste of the work, worry, stress, and rewards that come with the care of medically fragile children. The saddest thing was that many of these kids lived in one room most of the time. But not Mikayla! I understand her prognosis was not good was she was born, not expected to live long but that is because the doctors did not know who Mikayla's parents were! You two provided this sweet little girl with a life so rich in love and stimulation. No wonder she beat the odds the way she did! I pray for you, James and Heather, that a day comes soon when something happens and you think, "Mikayla would have laughed and laughed about that!" and the thought doesn't bring the sense of loss but you makes you smile-making a difficult day that much better and good day that much better. What a wonderful way to continue to honor the little blessing that you named Mikayla.

My name is Alex Evans, and I rode the bus and went to school with Mikayla. I'm sorry for you guys that she passed away, so sad and I hope you guys feel better soon. I'm glad she can run, and talk and being happy forever. I am so sad that you'll miss your daughter but she is better and she is in heaven and happy now forever.

I was very sad to hear that Mikayla passed away. I have been retired over 6 years now, tho I saw her a few times after that at the art festival or skating parties, etc. She was in my classroom the last several years I worked and was such a spunkly little one. She was learning then to move in a walker, to keep her new hearing aid on, and to use a communication device. She was a lot of fun to have in my class. I remember meeting her new little sister, Lillianna, as a baby. I grieve her loss along with you and your family members and other OAC staff who knew and loved her. My prayers are for God to comfort you, to bring to mind special memories in days ahead to sustain you, and to help you adjust to this great change in your life. Thank you for sharing her with OAC and for trusting our staff with your precious child.

Mikayla fly hi and run as fast as u can. U have touched all of lives with ur infectious smiles and joy u were so happy all the time. We really enjoyed watching u and ur sisters. U have the best parents ever. They never treated u any different than the other girls when it came to doing anything(especially outside ). U r gone but never forgotten. We are so sorry for the loss of Miss Mikayla. Words cannot express how deeply sorry we are. Mikayla was so loved by all of you. You could see your love each and every day of her life. Please know that she is flying high like a butterfly out of her cocoon. She is dancing, singing, and running all over heaven!!! Though she is gone, she has still left behind her organs which will help others, you see she is gone but will continue to live in others and most of all in all of us. That laugh and smile of hers will never be forgotten.

My heart is breaking along with all of Mikayla's family. I was her teacher for several years. She brought smiles to all of us at school, with her smile and giggles! I am honored to have been a part of her life. She was a brave, strong girl. She was also a little rascal, whom we loved so much! She was blessed with parents who gave her an awesome life. My heartfelt sympathies go out to all of the family.

Rejoice in the 13 years you spent everyday loving her. She is a very special girl. I remember the times I watched Mikayla with you Jamie being taken by Aero Med to GR, her tiny little body, so fragile.
She defied the doctors odds & lived 13 years longer then expected. Donnie & I were proud to be her "step-grandparents".
May you be at peace knowing Mikayla is now in Heaven, with the Angel's wings wrapped around her.
