This resonated with our family when David died. It speaks volumes for Erin, Jeff, Willa and myself. We were so very blessed to have this amazing man in our lives.

DEATH IS NOTHING AT ALL

by Henry Scott-Holland 1910

Death is nothing at all.
It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Nothing has happened.

Everything remains exactly as it was.
I am I, and you are you,
and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.

Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it.

Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was.
There is absolute and unbroken continuity.
What is this death but a negligible accident?

Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval,
somewhere very near,
just round the corner.

All is well.
Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

We were very sad to learn that David had passed away. Though we have been far away, we got to know him as a very good person, dedicated husband and father. His sincere interest in his Norwegian family's history and origin was something we, the Rorbakkens, also shared with him and benefited from.

Luann, our thoughts are with you with the rest of the family.

After the tears have dried and the goodbyes have been said, we have to hold onto the good memories that we've shared with our loved ones who have passed, this is what keeps them alive in our hearts and in our minds, and they will continue to live on, through us. Our condolences.

Love from Paul and Kari Rorbakken, our children and grandchildren

David really looked forward to and enjoyed his correspondence with your family. He was so very interested in the Norwegian culture and background of his family in Norway. Thank you all for your kind words.

Dear Luann, Jeff, Erin, Willa, Grandma, We are so sorry for your loss. Uncle Dave was a great person. He impacted us all with his positive energy, his gourmet Christmas brunch cuisine, and his often humorous outlook on life in general. We will all miss Uncle Dave very much. Love, Kelly & Miles

Luann, your loss breaks my heart, sis. What a wonderful, kind & thoughtful man he was. I will miss the days the three of us worked on our family history together as well as the summer visits. I always enjoyed our conversations over early morning coffee, (He & I the early birds waking up before dawn). Remember when we worked on Erin's wedding in the kitchen chopping up the veggies and Dave said I don't think I'll ever want to see another carrot again. Even with the most tedious of jobs he always made us laugh. He definitely understood the phrase "make lemonade out of lemons." Love you both. I will miss Dave so much. Debra Jean Minnock
