Russell Jay Laman

Russell Jay Laman, 79, of Grand Haven passed away on Monday, July 27, 2015 at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital. He was born on April 12, 1936 to Arend and Jennie (Wolters) Laman in Grand Haven, MI. Russ married Lorena “Peach” Yonker on April 22, 1967 in Grand Haven. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Russ was a member of Second Reformed Church. He was a lieutenant for the Grand Haven Fire Department, retiring in 1990. Russ also worked for Trinity Reformed Church for 10 years and the Grand Haven Tribune for 15 years. He loved camping and spending time with his family, children and grandchildren. Russ is survived by his loving family, wife of 48 years, Peach; daughter, Susanne “Sue” (Ronald) Wallish of Grand Haven; son, Jeffrey (Donna) Laman of Spring Lake; grandchildren, Alex and Madison Laman, Briana and Amber Wallish, Adam and Isaac Wallish, Jessica and Levi Garwood; brother, Corky (Mary Dale) Laman of Empire, MI; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marva Botbyl, brother-in-law, Marvin Botbyl. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Second Reformed Church. Military rites will be performed by the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28. Interment will be in Grand Haven Township Lakeshore Cemetery. Friends and relatives may greet the family from 5 - 8 pm on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Klaassen Family Funeral Home.
