Richard “Dick” Smith, age 85 of  The Villages, FL, formerly of Bridgeport and Grand Haven, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 12, 2015. Dick was born July 28, 1930 to Conrad and Hazel (Green) Smith in Aurora, IL. He proudly served his country in the US Navy. Dick graduated from Central Michigan University where he played football and later earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Administration. He married Nancy Witzel on January 2, 1957 in South Bend, IN. Dick started his career at Lyons-Muir School District as a teacher and principal. He later became an area administrator for Lakewood Public Schools. Dick retired from Bridgeport-Spaulding Community Schools as Assistant Superintendent in 1990. Dick modeled what true love looks like, always putting his wife and family first. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, cross-stitching and attending events that involved his children and grandchildren. Dick is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Nancy; daughters, Cindy (Rick) Lee, Beth (Randy) Ferris, Sally (Chuck) Nugent; sons, Steve Smith, Richard (Kathy) Smith; grandchildren; Katie, Kristin Brenton, Kaurie (Chandler), Will (Courtney), Samantha, Lauren, Tim, Lauren Ann, Mark, Scott, Patrick, Trevor and Sydney; great grandchildren, Grace, Ben and Max; sister, Pat (Mark) Day, Darrell (Betty) Smith; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister. A private family remembrance will take place at a later date.
