Rachel (Wingfield) Blackmer

Rachel Blackmer, age 85 of Grand Haven passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Heartwood Lodge. Rachel was born October 5, 1930 to Carl and Lula (Cash) Wingfield in Madison Heights, Virginia. She married Tom Simpson in 1950 and he preceded her in death in 1963. Rachel then married Richard Blackmer on April 21, 1967. He preceded her in death in 2013. Rachel was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she and Richard were very active. She worked for Michigan Bell Telephone and later worked for Dana Printing as an office manager for many years. Rachel enjoyed tending to the flowers in her garden and spending time with her grandchildren. Rachel is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Piasecki of Grand Haven; sons, Fred Simpson, Macy (Amy) Simpson both of Grand Haven; grandchildren, Bryan, Nathan Bethany, Rachel and Sarah; great grandchildren, Makenna and Olivia; sister, Wanda Vukmirovich of Lynchburg, VA; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Janelle Hair and brother, Carlton Wingfield. The funeral service for Rachel will be 2:00 pm Saturday, January 23, 2016 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Spring Lake. Interment will be in Grand Haven Township Lakeshore Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.
