Obituary

Wayne A. VanDuinen, age 81 of Grand Haven, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at home. He was born on January 31, 1941 to the late Fred and Winny (De Vos) VanDuinen. He married Judith Ceton on June 9, 1967, and she preceded him in death on June 13, 2005. He then married Yvonne Lind on August 6, 2006 in Grand Haven.

Wayne worked as a school teacher for four years in White Cloud, MI, and 27 years in Spring Lake, retiring in 1994. He attended and was very active at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ for many years where he was a “Prayer Warrior” and Sunday school teacher. Wayne loved to ride his tandem bike around town and on cross-country trips with his friends, enjoyed listening to audio books, and was in a book club. Wayne loved his church, eating home-made baked goods, and playing games. He was instrumental in getting crosswalks changed to protect pedestrians, and leaves a lasting memory of his compassion with those who met him.

Wayne is lovingly remembered and missed by his beloved wife of 15 years, Yvonne; his two sons, Mark VanDuinen of Berrien Springs, MI and David (Claudine) VanDuinen of Spring Lake, MI; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; step-sons: Robert (Ruth) Marcus and David (Jeanne) Marcus, all of Grand Haven; and sister-in-law, Ruth Forrest.

He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Donna Bishop and Eileen (Roger) Chamberlain; his two brothers, Edwin (Ruth) VanDuinen and Leroy (Carol) VanDuinen; and two step-children, John “Jack” Marcus and Mary (Jim) Downie.

The Funeral Service for Wayne will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ with Pastor Matthew Schmidt officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery.
