Wayne Gesner Boes, age 80 of Spring Lake, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. He was born on January 31, 1944, to the late Joseph and Florence (Zuidema) Boes.
After graduating from Grand Haven High School, Wayne went to work with his father, Joe, and brother, Bruce, at the Gulf Gas station. Together, they later opened Pure Oil Full-Service station, which also offered mechanic and wrecker service, before founding Boulevard Used Cars on Beacon Boulevard.
Wayne honorably served our country in the Army National Guard and was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends at his cabin on Beak Lake in Canada, and traveling to North Dakota to go hunting with his lifelong friend, Bob Brady.
Wayne was a member of the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28 and the Grand Haven Elks Lodge where he enjoyed playing on their baseball team. For fun outside of hunting, Wayne and Carol would try their luck making wagers on horse races, hoping to win millions.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Carol (Garder) Boes; and children: Kim Boes, Kevin (Laura) Boes, Mark Vandersys, Matt (Roxanne) Vandersys, and Mecca Brown; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, JoAnn (Rick) Chittenden and Cindy Holmes; brother, Bruce Boes; brothers-in-law, Steve (Paulette) Musial and T.J. (Jill) Musial; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Mary Boes; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Musial.
In accordance with Wayne wishes, there will be no funeral or visitation. The family will gather for a private celebration of life at a later date.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Harbor Hospice.
