Thomas Cousineau Obituary

Thomas Charles Cousineau, age 79 of Spring Lake, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Hospice of Heartwood Lodge, surrounded by loved ones. Tom was born in 1942 in Muskegon, MI, to Charles H. and Treva Cousineau.

Tom graduated from North Muskegon High School, and attended The University of Idaho on a Football Scholarship. He continued to play football and be an active Frater at Hope College, where he received his BA. While at Hope, Tom met the love of his life, Carol. Tom furthered his education, earning his MA from Western, and completed Pre-Doctoral work at the University of Pittsburgh. He taught and coached football at Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School before moving back to Michigan.

Tom’s career with Carpenter Brothers, Inc., spanned over 40 years, where he was in technical sales of consumables/equipment to the foundry industry. Professionally, he was part of the American Foundry Society, serving as President. Tom also served as President and Board Member of Spring Lake District Library for 28 years, and also found time to volunteer at North Ottawa Community Hospital.

One of Tom’s greatest pleasures was comradery with his peers – whether that be with the members of The Garden Club for poker or the TCPAFL for fantasy football, golfing with friends at Spring Lake Country Club, or hitting the Tip-a-Few with fellow members of the exclusive Spring Lake Gentleman’s Association. Tom also had a love of reading, traveling, playing bridge, and enjoying a good Scotch.

Tom is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol; his daughter, Lindsay, and son-in-law Andrew Blair; granddaughter, Finlay; his sister, Mary Watlington; and brother, Chuck (Kim) Cousineau; sister-in-law, Susan Vermilyea; and many nieces and nephews.
