Theodore “Ted” Fredrick Ploehn, Jr., age 77, of Grand Haven, passed away on April 30, 2024, at Trinity Health Muskegon Hospital. Ted was born November 2, 1946, in Battle Creek, MI, to the late Theodore and Doris (Johnson) Ploehn. He has been a Grand Haven resident since 2018, previously residing in New Richmond, MI.
Ted was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College. From 1965 to 1969, he proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was a wood worker by trade and throughout the years was employed by Heyworth, Dog Life, Crescent Pipe, Essex International and Coca Cola. Ted was an outdoorsman who loved to camp, hunt, and fish. Besides being an excellent wood worker, he was known as a Jack of all Trades who was willing to repair or help anyone that had a need. Another passion was restoring and rebuilding cars. He was a life member of the Creston VFW Post 3023.
Ted will be lovingly remembered by his partner in life, Sherry Fricano of Grand Haven; by his two sons, Danny (Heather) Ploehn of Mattawan, MI and Wayne (Lisa) Ploehn of Holton, MI; two grandchildren, Megan and Brittany; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Taylea and Christopher; two sisters, Martha Itamura and Marty Bakhuyzen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a close friend Al Stolz.
A Memorial Celebration of Ted’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Klaassen Family Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Bytwerk officiating, and Military Honors by Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post #28. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
