Theodore “Ted” Yonker, age 65 of Grand Haven, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Mercy Hospital, Muskegon. He was born on June 14, 1953 in Grand Haven, MI to John and Marge (Baker) Yonker. Ted married Jill Yonker in 1979 in Hamilton, MI.
Ted was a life-long resident of the Tri-Cities area. He graduated from Spring Lake High School, Class of 1971. He worked for the Ottawa County Sherriff’s Department starting in the reserve unit, and then became a full time Deputy Sherriff at the Ottawa County Jail and later became a Transport Officer. He also had served as a volunteer Fire Fighter for Grand Haven Township. Ted was the former owner of Sparkle Wash of Grand Haven, and also worked for Home Depot, and most recently, was a driver for Harbor Transit. He was a long-time member of Trinity Reformed Church in Grand Haven, where he also served as Deacon and Elder.
Ted was a family man who always attended his son’s sports events. He loved his dogs, and enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing any chance he could get. Ted enjoyed sports, and was a fan of the Michigan Wolverines. He especially enjoyed watching NASCAR races, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Sr. were his favorite drivers. Ted was a fun-loving guy whose memory will live on through those who knew him best.
Ted will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 40 years, Jill; his three sons, Jonathan Yonker of Grand Haven, Josh (Audrey Heath) Yonker of Hamilton; and Justin Yonker of Grand Haven; sisters, Marjorie (Elwood) Rycenga of Holland, Lorena (Peach) Laman of Grand Haven, Judy Arbogast of Grand Haven; in-laws, Sharon Yonker of Grand Haven, Jane (Duane) Vis of Zeeland, Jim (Jackie) Yonker, and Joel (Dawn) Yonker, both of Hamilton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Russ Laman; sister, Ruth Yonker; and brother, Wally Yonker.
The Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Trinity Reformed Church with Pastor Randy Bremmer officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, June 17th from 5 to 8 p.m. at Klaassen Family Funeral Home. Memorial Contributions may be made to Trinity Reformed Church or Officer Down Memorial Page.
