He loved well and was well loved. Terrance L. Hollar, better known as Terry, age 74, finished his journey to Heaven on Friday, December 29, 2023, a journey that began 47 years ago when he saw a glimpse of heaven following an auto accident.
Terry was born January 9, 1949, in Grand Haven, MI, to the musically gifted, Leonard and Doris (Len and Dorie) Hollar. Terry experienced the abundance of grace offered by Christ his Lord and lived his life sharing that gift with others; first with his family and then all those he met. He did so with his kind, gentle heart. Mostly, he shared the love of Christ through music. From singing harmonies with cousins at an early age, to music groups such as the New Life Quartet, the Counselors Quartet, Celebration of Praise, and worship team. He used his gift as a musician by serving on several DeColores EnCristo and Westshore DeColores weekends where he touched lives and made people laugh. Terry brought joy and life to those who heard him sing and play instruments. Throughout the years, he used his love of Jesus and music to invite others into the presence of God. His love of music did not stop there. For many years you would find him closing out a concert or marching the streets with the Scottville Clown Band.
Terry loved the great outdoors. Where there was a season, there was a way for Terry to hunt, fish, or camp. His love of the outdoors led him to his career of 40 years, walking plats and drawing plans at the Ottawa County Road Commission.
Terry will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Shelley (Bekins); and his son, David (Anna) Hollar; and daughter, Beth (Chris) Bekins; and grandchildren: Sam Bekins, Dorie Bekins, Allison (James) Stong, Gabrielle (Brad) Lester, and Isabella Hollar; and great-grandchildren: William, Adeline, and Judah Stong.
He is also survived by his brother, Tom (Susan) Hollar; step-mother, Leona Hollar; in-laws: Patsy Bekins, Mark (Paula) Bekins, Rita (Derek) Endres, Rhonda (Steven) Dryfhout, and Chris (Beth) Bekins; several nieces and nephews; and his first wife, Mary (Wallish) Scheil.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Howard Bekins; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The Celebration of Life for Terry was held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024, at All Shores Wesleyan Church in Spring Lake. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 4, 2024, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Klaassen Family Funeral Home.
