Stanley R. Wheat, age 91, of Grand Haven passed away on May 3, 2024, peacefully at home. He was born July 2, 1932, in Baltimore, MD, to the late Stanley and Elsie (Ewing) Wheat. Stan was raised on the family farm in Maryland and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1952 where he proudly served his country as a medic during the Korean War.
Stan worked for Lockheed Martin as an airplane mechanic and retired from the Baltimore County Recreation and Parks as a Supervisor. He loved being outside, be it golfing, fishing, crabbing, or boating. Stan loved the water, especially Chesapeake Bay and eating soft, steamed, or crab cakes. He enjoyed following the Baltimore Ravens, Orioles, and Colts, if any Baltimore team played, he was watching. Stan was a proud member of the Gunpowder VFW Post 10067 where he was a two-time Post Commander. He volunteered his time and efforts at Gunpowder, he had a lot of friends there, and everyone was always greeted with a warm smile and a listening ear.
Stan will be loving remembered and missed by his partner of 54 years, Joon Hixon; his daughter, Maureen (Ken) Farrell; two-step daughters, Soonja (Patric Kisielewski) Hixon, Tammy (Monty) Montfort; 4 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents; son, Stanley R. Wheat Jr.; two brothers; and five sisters.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
