Sandra “Sandy” Teunis, age 86 of Grand Haven, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. Sandy was born on January 10, 1935 in Grand Rapids, MI to the late Sidney and Helen (De Ryke) Clark.
After moving to the Grand Haven area with her parents, Sandy attended Grand Haven Public Schools. After graduation, she married James “Jim” Teunis on May 10, 1958 in Grand Haven. Sandy worked for Michigan Bell, a local nursing home, and then at North Ottawa Community Hospital in the surgery department for 26 years prior to her retirement.
At age 50, Sandy began running and gained a passion for the sport. She ran in many races over the years, and was proud of her collection of ribbons of achievement. Sandy participated in the Old Kent Bank River Run three times, finishing with a good time in her age group each time. She also loved to sew, knit, and travel south in the winter months.
Sandy was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Grand Haven where she served as deacon. She also loved to garden, having a garden at home, and a flower garden at church which she tended to for many years. Sandy also served her community by volunteering for North Ottawa Community Hospital, International Aid, and Love in Action.
Sandy will be adoringly remembered as an active and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She cherished her family and especially loved to spend time with her grandchildren as they were growing up.
