Sandra Oosterbaan Obituary

Sandra Kay Oosterbaan, age 78, of Grand Haven, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at the Inn at Freedom Village in Holland. She was born in October of 1947, in Holland, MI, to Clarence and Marjorie (Bolhuis) VandeWater. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Michael Oosterbaan, who passed in 2025.

Sandy graduated from Holland High School and went on to earn her bachelor's degree in education from Michigan State University, followed by a master's degree in education from Butler University. She taught at schools in Indianapolis and New Jersey prior to the birth of her children, Scott and Lori. Sandy then stayed home to raise her children for several years before returning to teaching in Grand Haven in the 1980's until her retirement in the early 2000's.

Sandy loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and she and Mike spent many winters in Florida together to enjoy the warm weather. She also enjoyed many hobbies including reading, walking the boardwalk and the bike path along Lakeshore, making cross stitch creations, and watching sports. In particular, she followed the Spartans as well as the Lions, Tigers, and professional golf.

Sandy will be missed by her two children, Scott (Tara) Oosterbaan and Lori (Jim) Burke; and four grandchildren: Turner and Abby Oosterbaan, Kate and Margaret Burke.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Mike.

A private graveside service for Sandy will take place at Grand Haven Township Lakeshore Cemetery.
