Ruth Ann Cooper, age 85 of Grand Haven, passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Allendale Nursing & Rehabilitation. She was born on May 18, 1936 in St. Joseph, MI to the late Roscoe and Thelma (Hendrix) Johns. Ruth married Eugene Cooper on December 19, 1976 in Grand Haven, MI. He preceded her in death on December 14, 2017 after almost 41 years of marriage.
Ruth graduated from Stevensville High School, Class of 1954 and worked as secretary to the Principal for Fruitport Middle School up until her retirement, working in Administration. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and belonged to Wednesday night women’s bowling league at Starlight Lanes.
Ruth was a wonderful cook and entertainer; hosting large parties during the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival. She enjoyed working puzzles and crosswords, listening to music, and even played the bass drum in the marching band when she was in high school.
Ruth is lovingly remembered and missed by her three daughters, Kathy Wirth of Grand Haven, Tammy (Ted) Sibley of Grand Haven, and Sherry (John) Miller of Allendale; five grandchildren: Tracy Olsen, T.J. Sibley, Lauren Wirth, Rena Hines, and Taylor Sheick; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; step-son, Dale Cooper in 2018; and her two brothers, Allen and Joe Johns.
The Funeral Service for Ruth will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Gilson officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 5th, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Klaassen Family Funeral Home. Interment will be at Grand Haven Township Historic Cemetery.
