Ruth Arlene (Bloom) Bush

Ruth Arlene Bush, age 89 of Fort Smith, Arkansas, formerly Grand Haven, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 in Fort Smith, AR. She was born on April 20, 1934 in Batavia, IL, to the late Harold and Genevieve (Cook) Bloom. Ruth married David P. Bush on November 28, 1952 in Grand Haven.

Ruth was a member of Second Reformed Church, Grand Haven, for many years, where she was a former member of the choir and taught Sunday school. She was also an associate member of the Holy Way Presbyterian Church in Tucson, AZ.

Ruth worked most of her career as a Secretary for Ottawa County Extension Office for 23 years prior to her retirement in 1995. While residing in Arizona, she served as Public Relations Secretary for Tucson Estates. She was a former member of the Jaycee’s Auxiliary and served as former President of the PTA at Ferry Elementary School.

Ruth enjoyed golfing, reading, working on crossword puzzles, and playing on the computer. Most important and central to her life was her family, especially her grandsons.

Ruth will be lovingly remembered and missed by her beloved husband of 71 years, David; and their daughter, Barbara (Steven) Huisman of Fort Smith, AR; two cherished grandsons, Nicholas (Lacey) Huisman and Matthew Huisman; brothers, Ronald (Bonnie) Bloom of Grand Haven and Steven Dornbos of Traverse City, MI; several nieces and nephews; as well as many treasured friends in both Michigan and Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her nephew, Thomas Bloom; and sister-in-law, Gladys (Charles) Bard.

A Celebration of Ruth’s Life will be held at a later date to be announced. Interment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of North Ottawa Community or Second Reformed Church.
