Ruth Ann Buckner, age 88, of Grand Haven, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Newaygo County Compassion Home. She was born on November 4, 1936, in Grand Haven, Ml, to Wilhelm and Gertrude (Munch) Melcher. She married the love of her life, Jack Buckner, on September 12, 1953, in Grand Haven, MI.
Ruth graduated from South Haven High School and went on to work as a baker at Mackenzie's Bakery and later worked at Braak’s Bakery. She also worked for a time at Steketee’s. Ruth was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church with her husband, Jack for many years. She enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, and taking occasional trips to the casino. Ruth was a great homemaker, a fantastic cook, and she provided foster care to many. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, and spending the winter months in Florida where she could enjoy the sunshine.
Ruth will be remembered and missed by her three children: Sharrel (Dan) Reaume, William Buckner, and Marvin (Rose) Buckner; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack; daughter, Jackie Laundry; eight siblings; and two sisters-in-law.
The Memorial Service for Ruth will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Aaron Vergin officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Grand Haven Township Lakeshore Cemetery.
