Roger Dennis Hartman, age 71 of Grand Haven, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at Heartwood Lodge, Spring Lake, after a brief stay. He was born on February 16, 1951 to Donald and Margaret (Molengraff) Hartman.
Roger was a lifelong resident of Grand Haven, raised in the Peach Plains area, graduating from Grand Haven High School (1969) and later continuing coursework at Baker College. He began work in High School as a co-op student assigned first to McClellan’s, then Grant’s. Roger continued a career in materials distribution and warehouse management with various businesses. He most enjoyed his work with Love in Action and other non-profit organizations.
Always an avid volunteer, Roger was a member and officer in the Grand Haven Area Jaycee’s and various Lions Clubs.
He attended Hope Reformed Church for many years, where he served as a deacon. Through the years, he favored event planning, parade work, and, most prized of all, captaining his boat for Whitey White’s Water Thrill Show skiers. He loved fishing and camping; especially visiting around a campfire with his brother and very close friends Jeff and Marie, Judy, Carol, Jack, and many others. As his friend and mentor Jeanette said, Roger was a gentle soul. His warmth and kindness were known wherever he went.
Roger is survived by his siblings, Barbara Ballard, Donna Hartman, and Robert Hartman, all of Grand Haven, and Donald (Judy) Hartman of Hazel, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Gail Hartman; brother-in-law, Neil Ballard; and nephews, Eric and Matthew Hartman.
In accordance with Roger’s wishes, a Celebration of Life Gathering will be held for friends and family to enjoy food and camaraderie at Pottawatomie Park on Thursday, June 1st, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Interment has taken place at Grand Haven Township Lakeshore Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Love in Action of the Tri-Cities or to the Hospice of your choice.
