Richard Bruce Buckingham, Jr.,”Buck,” age 91 of Spring Lake, MI passed away on December 21, 2020 at Seville Assisted Living Center in Grand Haven, MI. He was born in Detroit, MI on August 1, 1929 to Richard Bruce and Aria (Boch) Buckingham, Sr. Buck married the love of his life, Evelyn Tolley of Madison, SD, on March 21, 1953 at Fort Myer in Arlington, VA while they proudly served their country in the US Marine Corp and US Air Force, respectively. They were married almost 60 years before her passing in 2013.

Buck was a veteran of the Korean War with the rank of Sergeant.  He served at the Marine Headquarters in Washington, D.C. 

He received his Business degree from Michigan State University before working for Sears Roebuck for 33 years. Buck worked his way up the corporate ladder from stock-boy to the manager of two stores, with the last being in Muskegon, at the original mall location downtown. He was a master carpenter of fine furniture, and many of his building projects bless the homes of his children. 

Buck was an avid golfer, playing multiple courses in the eastern US and St. Andrew’s in Scotland.  He also enjoyed John Wayne movies. 

Buck is survived by his devoted children: favorite first born son, Bruce (Kathy) Buckingham of Port Clinton OH; favorite daughter, Linda (Steve) Namenye of Spring Lake MI; favorite youngest son, Mark (Meiling) Buckingham of Collierville TN; his brother, James Buckingham of Horseshoe Bay, TX; and brother-in-law, Ivan Tolley of Dollar Bay, MI. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Eric (Emily) Buckingham, Jeff (Brandy) Buckingham, Taleah (Jeffrey) Greve, Adrienne Hope (Jason Shepard), CJ (David) Namenye Wood, Garrett (Theresa) Namenye, Melissa (Wesley) Buckingham Adams, and Michael Buckingham; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Evelyn; and brother, Thomas Buckingham.   

The Memorial Service for Buck will be held in Stockbridge, MI in the Spring of 2021.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of North Ottawa Community.
