Raymond Joseph Cibor, age 85, of Grand Haven, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at The Leila and Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence. Affectionately known as ‘Palzee’ or ‘Gpa’, he was born on October 9, 1939, in Detroit, MI, to the late Walter and Frances (Struzik) Cibor. Ray married Bernadine (Deenie) Petrenchak on May 4, 1963, in Detroit, MI.
Ray graduated from Mount Carmel High School in Wyandotte, MI. He later went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Detroit Mercy and began his career as a Certified Public Accountant working for the City of Detroit in the Office of the Auditor General, which he did for 36 years. Ray then moved to Grand Haven, where he spent his next 30 years.
Ray was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake for many years. He was a big college sports fan, with his favorite being U of M football, which he was a longtime season ticket holder of, and MSU football team. His motto was, “Go Blue, Go State, Roll Tide!”.
Ray enjoyed a good Manhattan cocktail, golfing, traveling, jogging, trips with Deenie to Las Vegas, playing video poker, Polish food, polka dancing, Polish Christmas Carols, and especially spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids.
Ray will be forever remembered and missed by his beloved wife of 63 years, Deenie; two sons: Matt (Carolyn) Cibor and Greg (Anne) Cibor; five grandchildren: Alexander (Kristen) Cibor, Lauren (Kyle) Metcalfe, Courtney Cibor, Brooke Cibor, and Nicholas Cibor; five great-grandchildren: Franz Cibor, Louisa Cibor, Murphy Metcalfe, Ingrid Cibor, and Maxwell Metcalfe; sister, Agnes Ritz; brother, Tony Cibor; and sisters-in-law: Lorraine (Rick) Yuskowatz and Dorothy (Don) Kullgren.
He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, George Ritz; and sister-in-law, Micki Cibor.
The Funeral Mass for Ray will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Bill Vander Werff officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be held privately at a later date at St. Hedwig Cemetery in Dearborn Heights, Michigan.
