Raymond McLean Obituary

Raymond K. McLean, age 89 of Grand Haven, joined his Lord and beloved wife in Heaven on Friday, November 2, 2018. He was born August 19, 1929 in Muskegon, MI to Earl and Bernice (Fitzpatrick) McLean.

Foremost, Ray was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He attended Muskegon Heights High School, played basketball, baseball, and was an All-State football offensive and defensive end. Ray served in the Navy during the Korean War. Ray was a self-employed builder and construction foreman until retirement, and generously used his skills to help those in need. Ray especially enjoyed heading south and building homes with Habitat for Humanity.  He served as a deacon at his church and on the school board for Grand Haven Christian School.  Ray was thankful to be a recovered alcoholic and to help others with sobriety. His enjoyment came from spending time with his family, trout fishing, golfing, and watching sports. He will be especially missed by his family.

He is survived by his daughters, Holly (Michael) Bladel of Lakeville, MN and Joy (Ron) Pratt of Marne, MI; grandchildren, Katelyn Bladel, Shannon (Ben) Bladel Haskin, and Spencer Pratt; sister, Helene Warner; sisters-in-law, Leatha Hildebrandt, Mary (Bill) Hoffman and Sharon (Leo) Locricchio; brothers-in-law, Charles (Sara) Wilks and Winston (Betty) Wilks; and many wonderful family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Blanche; infant son, David; and four siblings, Mary McLean, Rita Johnson, Arlene Cato, and Bill McLean; brothers-in-law, Clyde Wilks Jr., Don Hildebrandt, Lyle (Marlene) Wilks.

The Celebration of Life for Ray will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 5, 2018 at Second Christian Reformed Church in Grand Haven with Pastors Laura de Jong and Ed Tamminga officiating. Friends and relatives may meet with the family on Sunday, November 4th from 12 pm to 2 pm at Klaassen Family Funeral Home. Interment will be at East Dalton Oakhill Cemetery.
