Phyllis Kay VanDyke, age 84 of Fruitport, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2019 at Harbor Hospice - Poppen House Residence. She was born on April 30, 1935 in Muskegon, MI to the late Corniel and Edna (Sikkenga) Wagenmaker. In 1954, Phyllis married Terrance Roach and he preceded her in death in 1972. She then married Jack VanDyke, to whom she was married to for 46 years.
Phyllis graduated from Grand Haven High School and attended Muskegon Community College to earn her Nursing degree. After working at Wheeler Drug Store, she became employed at North Ottawa Community Hospital as a Scrub Nurse. Upon her retirement from North Ottawa Community Hospital, her passion for nursing continued, and Phyllis worked for Visiting Nurses of Muskegon and Oceana Counties part-time, obtained her Michigan Real Estate License and was employed by Vollmer Real Estate.
Phyllis and her husband, Jack, were both charter members of the Fruitport Eagles Club, which they enjoyed visiting. She enjoyed arts and crafts and made different kinds of jewelry over the years that she would sell at craft fairs. Phyllis also enjoyed sewing and knitting for her grandchildren, making baby shoes, traveling in the RV, and playing on the traveling Shuffleboard team, which she championed more than once. She will be fondly remembered and missed.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Jack; sons, Michael (Janit) Roach, Terraance (Sandy) Roach, Gary (Jodi) VanDyke, Jack (Lisa) VanDyke, Gordon VanDyke; daughters, Gerilyn (Rick) Justus and Gail (Paul) Brondyke; many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Joan Wells and Lynn (Paul) Gronevelt. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Roach.
The Celebration of Life for Phyllis will be on Thursday, November 7, 2019 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Fruitport Eagles Club. Interment will be at Grand Haven Township Lakeshore Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fruitport Eagles Club.
