Pauline Marie (Klumpel) VanderHoek

Pauline Marie VanderHoek, age 84 of Grand Haven, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023 after a year-long battle with cancer. She was born on May 23, 1939 in Grand Haven, MI to the late Herman and Lorraine “Lolly” (Lange) Klumpel. Pauline married William “Bill” W. Munch, on June 29, 1957 in Grand Haven. He preceded her in death on May 21, 2009. She married the love of her life, Bob VanderHoek in the 1980’s, and he preceded her in death in 1997.

Pauline graduated from Grand Haven High School and went on to work in customer service in the Banking industry, which she did for many years before her retirement. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, as well as the Grand Haven Eagles Aerie #925 Auxiliary, American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28 Auxiliary, and the Grand Haven Elks Lodge #1200.

Pauline enjoyed staying active through her membership at the Tri-Cities Y.M.C.A. and going golfing, bowling, and walking. She and Bob took many trips together and visited several places including Las Vegas and Palm Springs. Pauline especially enjoyed living by the water and watching the freighters come in through the Grand Haven Channel and during the Coast Guard Festival, watching the ships coming in.

Pauline is lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Barb North (Richard Burns) and Pam Olthof (Bill Bailey); granddaughter, Kim (Geof) Matheson; two great-grandchildren, Mackanna & Jaelynn; sisters-in-law, Judy and Mary Klumpel; nephews, Tamron and T. J. Klumpel; and her caregiver and special companion, Stu Poel.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Herman and Terry Klumpel.

The Memorial Service for Pauline will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ with Pastor Matthew Schmidt officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Memorial Garden at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ.
