Pastor Robert W. Davis, age 89 of Grand Haven, was called by his heavenly Father to come home to heaven on September 25, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Muskegon, MI.
Bob was born on September 22, 1929 to Earl and Irene (White) Davis. He grew up in Springfield, IL. He graduated from Bob Jones University in 1955 with a Pastoral degree. He worked for Youth for Christ in Milwaukee, WI where he met the true love of his life, Echo Eastlund, and married her on November 16, 1957. He continued with YFC in Decatur, IL before returning to Milwaukee to attend Milwaukee Bible Institute in 1960 when their daughter Nancy Jean was born. When the Institute moved to Wyoming, MI as Grace Bible College, he moved his family to Grand Rapids, MI to continue his studies and became Ordained as a minister for the Grace Gospel Fellowship.
In 1965 he began working for Grace Ministries International in Wyoming, MI as a printer, remaining there for 22 years. He also worked for several years printing for Bible Doctrines to Live By in Grand Rapids. In 1966 he moved his family to Grand Haven when the Robinson Grace Church called him to be their Pastor. He faithfully served there for 38 years and then retired. He was called out of retirement to Pastor the Georgetown Grace Church in Hudsonville from 2007-2013. When Bob’s physical health began to decline, he became a resident of Sanctuary at the Shore where he continued to preach, lead bible studies and minister to the needs of the staff and residents there for his final five years of life.
He is survived by his wife, Echo; his daughter, Nance; and his son-in-law, Peter V. Smith; along with many dearly loved in-laws, (sisters, brother, nieces, nephews, and their children).
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William & Ida (Wieben) White; his parents, Earl & Irene (White) Davis; and his Uncle, Jack White.
He is known and dearly loved as “Pastor Bob” to many in our community, country and around the world. He was a fun and amazing story teller and was sought after as the Junior Week Bible Teacher for GGF Summer camps in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Virginia & Wisconsin. He enjoyed music and loved to sing. He always had a joke to tell and a roaring laugh when hearing a good one. He loved food and seemed to always find a way to work food into his sermons, teaching and general conversations.
He was a wonderful, faithful, loving husband, the best Daddy a girl could ever have and an encouraging and supportive Father-In-Law who will be truly missed by all who ever had the privilege of knowing him.
A Memorial Celebration of Pastor Bob’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the Grand Haven Gospel Chapel, 1805 Waverly St. in Grand Haven with Pastor Ken Shady officiating.
