Nathan Gardner Peterson, age 47, of Grand Haven, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, October 21, 2024. He was born on March 9, 1977, in Lansing, Michigan, to Thomas A. Peterson (Karin Neils) and Jean M. Kennedy (William Feenstra).
Nathan's family moved to Grand Haven when he was five and he attended Montessori, Grand Haven, and Spring Lake Schools. Nathan graduated from Spring Lake High School in 1995. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in communications at Eastern Michigan University, and later, a degree in accounting at Baker College, where he graduated magna cum laude.
Nathan spent 10 years in California working in the field of Computer Programming. Upon his return to the Grand Haven area, he was employed both in the in the fields of Accounting and Office Management. His most recent place of employment was at EPS Industries in Spring Lake, Michigan.
At home, Nate passed the time playing guitar, writing, drawing and VR gaming. He liked to cook and experiment with new recipes. Out of doors, he enjoyed playing disc golf, visiting local courses, and at one point, participated in a disc golf league. Some of his best times, however, were spent with friends and families in his new neighborhood.
Nate had an amazing imagination and was a storehouse of random trivia and outside of the box ideas. He was gentle, kind, and caring; slow to anger, and quick to forgive. He was fair and able to look at both sides of an issue. Above all, he faced the ups and downs of his life with a sense of humor, equanimity, and acceptance.
Nathan is survived by his parents; his brother, David Peterson; his sister, Sarah Peterson; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Elmer and Barbara Peterson; and his maternal grandparents, Maurice and Betty Kennedy.
A Celebration of Life in Nate’s honor will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., in the Waterfront Room at the Spring Lake Holiday Inn. Luncheon will be served.
Interment will be at Grand Haven Township Historic Cemetery.
