Myrtle Ruth Zimmerman, age 89 of Grand Haven, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Heartwood Lodge. Myrtle was born May 15, 1926 to the late William and Hortense (Tindall) Ammons in Geneva, AL, but grew up in the DeFuniak Springs, FL area. Life wasn’t always easy for Myrtle, going through the great depression and losing her father at a young age. She was living in Columbus, GA with an older sister near the end of World War II. That is when she met Wesley Zimmerman who was stationed at Fort Benning after returning from the New Guinea Campaign. They were married on July 21, 1945 and moved to Grand Haven shortly afterwards, to Wesley’s hometown. Myrtle was a homemaker and raised three children while Wes worked long hours at a dairy farm. She enjoyed cooking and having the extended family over for get togethers. Myrtle also loved spending time with her four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Myrtle had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and attended several area churches with her family where she taught Sunday school and worked in the church library. Most recently she and Wes were members of First Baptist Church of Spring Lake. Myrtle will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Gayle (Paul) Williams, Debra (Don) Fish both of Grand Haven; son, Gregory (Sandra) Zimmerman of Grand Haven; grandchildren, Lisa (Kevin) Grigar, Luara Stupca, Derek (Mary) Fish, Julie Williams; great-grandchildren, Autumn and Grant Stupca. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley in 2011, brother, Raymond Ammons, sisters, Edith Helms, Elvia Sutton, Edna Jordan, Erien Brannon, Ella Skinner and Doris Hersey. The Funeral service for Myrtle will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, April 11, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Spring Lake with Pastor Jerry Poehl officiating. Interment will be in Spring Lake Cemetery. Friends and relatives may meet the family from 1 -3 pm on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Klaassen Family Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Spring Lake.
