Mona Chaffee Obituary

Mona D. Chaffee, age 82 of Fruitport, MI, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at home, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on May 7, 1940 in Branchland, West Virginia to the late Albert and Lucy (Cremeans) Gibson. Mona married William Russel “Russ” Chaffee on September 3, 1970 in Kentucky. He preceded her in death on September 3, 2006, after 36 years of marriage.

Mona loved being a wife and raising her children with the man she loved more than anything in the world.  She was raised in a Christian family of pastors and Gospel Quartet singer, and faithfully attended Calvary Bible Church. When she was about four years old, Mona accompanied her family to the Hunting City Auditorium where they were performing. Not even being old enough to read, she went and got a soapbox, stood on it, and belted out the only song she had memorized, "Beyond the Sunset Sky."

Mona was a wonderful stay at home mom who was always loving and kind. The biggest blessing to her children was the love of Christ, which she taught them daily. She worked as a hostess and waitress for a time, but always put her husband and children first. Mona loved Begonias, and taking care of her garden. She enjoyed traveling out west, wintering in Arizona, and in her younger years, playing softball and bowling on a local league.

Mona will be lovingly remembered and missed by her seven children: Joel (Tina) Chaffee of Las Vegas, NV, Roxanne Chaffee and Rex Chaffee of Knoxville, TN, Craig (Cynthia) Chaffee of Dixon, CA, Lisa (Rick) Kauffman of Grand Haven, MI, Ronald (Dawn) Chaffee of Knoxville, TN, and Jodie (Jeffery) Seaberg of Fruitport, MI; grandchildren: Zachary and Bryanna Chaffee, Hunter Chaffee, CJ, Carringtyn, Clayton, and Caden Chaffee, Jarrod and Sydnie Seaberg, Travis (Samantha) and Austin Chaffee, Joshua (Meghan) and Caitlynn Page; six great-grandchildren: Lorelai and Grayson Page, Calvin Norman, Blake Chaffee, Denver and Dawson Chaffee; siblings, Juanita Ferguson, Carlos, Michael, and Daniel Gibson; and sister-in-law, Wilma Gibson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russ; brothers, Lovell, Charles, Edsel, Wilfred, and Robert Gibson; and sisters, Carolyn Gibson and Goldie Childers.

The Funeral Service for Mona will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Trinity Reformed Church with Pastor Ed Arndt officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 5th, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Klaassen Family Funeral Home. Interment will be at Robinson Township Cemetery.
