Mildred Louise (Weddle) Cleland

Mildred Louise Cleland, age 90 of Carleton, MI, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023 at Trinity Health Muskegon Hospital, MI. She was born on January 11, 1933 in Detroit, MI, to Kenneth E. and Carrie L. (Smith) Weddle. Louise married Clifford A. Cleland, Sr. on July 3, 1954, in Flat Rock, MI, and they were married nearly 60 years before his passing on March 25, 2012.

Louise graduated from Flat Rock High School and worked for Ford Motor Company as an Executive Secretary for nearly 25 years before her retirement. She loved reading and crafting, and was known by her family as being an excellent cook. Louise was also a big sports fan who enjoyed watching local sports on television, as well as watching her kids, grandkids, and great-grand kids participate in sports.

She and Cliff enjoyed spending time with the family who all lived nearby. They vacationed in Florida during the winter, and also enjoyed traveling to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to visit her sister.

Louise (affectionately known as, “Mootey”) is lovingly remembered and survived by her four sons, Clifford, Jr. (Lindsay), Mike (Nancy), Tracy (Debbie), Brian (Stephanie); 10 grandchildren;13 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley (John) Gagnon; sisters-in-law, Beverly Weddle and Patricia Cleland; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifford A. Cleland, Sr.; and brother, Kenneth E. Weddle, Jr.

A private family service at Michigan Memorial Park in Flat Rock, MI will be held at a later date.
