Michael Zalsman Obituary

Michael Dale Zalsman, age 74 of Grand Haven, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2022 at home. He was born on November 22, 1947 in Holland, MI to the late Marvin and Nelda (Taylor) Zalsman.

Michael grew up in Hamilton, and after graduating from high school, went on to receive a Bachelor’s degree in Public Service and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Western University.

He relocated to Grand Haven where he served as a deputy sheriff for Ottawa County Sheriff's Department for eleven years. Michael later went on to work at Prince Corporation in 1983 and retired from the then Johnson Controls in 2006. He enjoyed working at Menards in Holland throughout his retirement.

Michael enjoyed spending his time with family and especially loved caring for his grandchildren, who brought him great joy. He was always the first car in line at school pick-up, even if it meant arriving as much as one hour before dismissal.

Michael loved nature and all of its glory, from watching the channel in Grand Haven where the Grand River meets Lake Michigan, to seeking, calling, and naming Michigan birds and mushroom hunting. He had a fond love for all sports, politics, and road trips with family and friends. There is great peace and hope knowing that Michael is with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, where we will one day be reunited.

Michael’s life will be remembered and missed by his two daughters, Erin (Bryan) Earvin of Walker, and Brianne (Burton) Taylor of Grand Haven; his son, Adam (Kara) Zalsman; his four beloved grandchildren, Avery and Reid Taylor, Jada Zalsman, and Lauryn Earvin; two sisters Beverly Jacobs and Peggy (Dale) Bol; his brother, Gordon (Deborah) Zalsman; niece, Kimberly DeLaney all of Hamilton; and nephews, Matthew (Jessica Pressey) Bol of Ferrysburg and Nikolai (Brandi) DeLaney of Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a nephew, Joshua Bol.

A private, family memorial will be held in the spring of 2022.
