Michael “Mike” Wayne Cross, age 70, of Grand Haven, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 18, 2025, surrounded by love. Born on January 13, 1955, in Muskegon, Michigan, Mike was the beloved son of the late Robert Sr. and Margorie (Pearson) Cross.
A proud graduate of Muskegon High School, Class of 1973, Mike was a dedicated member of the Muskegon Big Reds football team, playing in their memorable 1971 State Championship game. That team was honored with induction into the Muskegon Sports Hall of Fame in 2024, an achievement that brought Mike great pride.
Mike found joy in the simple, beautiful things in life. He was an avid outdoorsman who cherished time spent fishing, hunting, and taking drives along the lakeshore. He had a soft spot for Westerns, a good game of cribbage, and a scoop of ice cream shared with loved ones. But above all, Mike treasured time with his family and lifelong friends.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter in the hearts of his daughters, Elisabeth (Bryan) Smith and Ali Ray; his stepdaughter, Rachel (Kevin) Miller, and their children, Hannah and Willem; his cherished grandchildren, Rowan Smith and Abel Dominguez; and his devoted siblings: Sharon (Terry) Kroll, Debra Whalen, Susan (Charlie) Morpeth, Terri (Fred) Grimm, Linda Lewis, Robert Jr. (Ruth) Cross, Wayne Cross, and Benjamin (Jennifer) Cross. Mike will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends--especially Jeff Clark, Julis Larson, Paul Korndorfer, and Randy Parker.
He is now reunited with those who went before him: his brother, Thomas Cross; brother-in-law, Pat Whalen; and sister-in-law, Mary Cross.
A Celebration of Mike’s life will be held at a later date, where stories will be shared, memories cherished, and his spirit honored.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation, in hopes of finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease--a cause close to Mike’s heart.
