Mary Jane Bishop, age 85, of Grand Haven, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at home. She was born on June 7, 1939, in Spring Lake, MI, to the late William and Anna (Heinz) Dawes. Mary married Elwood "Woody" Bishop on August 17, 1957, in Grand Haven. He preceded her in death on February 13, 2024, after 66 years of marriage.
Mary graduated from Grand Haven High School, Class of 1957. During her high school years, she worked as a secretary for a local credit bureau, later working as a secretary for St. John's Lutheran Church for 32 years before her retirement.
Mary was a chalk and oil artist and presented chalk art programs for mother-daughter banquets for many years. She also loved dancing, music, and playing Pickleball. Mary and Woody enjoyed warm weather and sunshine, and they especially loved wintering in Florida together for 20 years.
Mary will be lovingly remembered and missed by her four sons: David (Lori) Bishop of North Muskegon, Richard "Dick" (Dottie) Bishop of Grand Haven, Dale (Tina) Bishop of Grandville, and Dan Bishop (Linda) of Tampa, FL; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sister, June Edmunds; sisters-in-law, Wilma Reenders and Linda Dawson; brother-in-law, Gary (Mary) Bishop; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Woody; sister and brother-in-law, Betty (Royden) Rock; brother, William Dawes; and brothers-in-law: Charles Edmunds, Harry Bishop, and Lyle Dawson.
The Memorial Service for Mary will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Klaassen Family Funeral Home, with Pastor Larry Hubley officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Alzheimer's Association-Michigan Chapter 090 or the American Cancer Society of Michigan.
