Mary Anne Barnes, age 85, of Spring Lake, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Trinity Health Grand Haven Hospital. She was born on March 17, 1940, in Coopersville, MI, to the late Erwin and Sophia (Kozak) Laufersky. Mary Anne married Ronald Barnes on May 19, 1962, in Spring Lake. He preceded her in death on November 12, 2020, after 58 years of marriage.
Mary Anne graduated from Grand Haven High School, Class of 1958 and was a lifelong resident of the area. She did secretarial work for Oakes Agency in Grand Haven for most of her working life and was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Spring Lake for many years. She was also a member of the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post 28 Auxiliary.
Mary Anne was a loving, caring mother and animal and nature lover who was most known for her big heart. She especially had a bond with her four-legged companion, Buddy, and loved to cook for her family.
Mary Anne will be lovingly remembered and missed by her son, Chris (Wendy) WorthingtonBarnes of Cedar Rapids, IA; her two grandsons, Paxton Barnes and Mathew WorthingtonBarnes; her niece and caregiver, Theresa Klouw; and sisters-in-law, Helen and Phyllis Laufersky.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ron; her daughter, Rhonda Barnes in 2021; and two brothers, Robert and John Laufersky.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
