Mary-Ann Kolkema, age 86 of Grand Haven, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 17, 2021. She was born on January 30, 1935 in Grand Haven; the daughter of Fredric and Marian (VanderMeiden) VanBemmelen. Mary-Ann married Ronald Kolkema on October 25, 1952. He preceded her in death in 2007.
Mary-Ann graduated from Grand Haven High School, and worked at Security First Bank and Trust Co. She was a former member of Spring Lake Presbyterian Church, and was very involved in the church activities. She was a woman of great faith who believed God is always in control.
Mary-Ann volunteered for years at Women in Transition, and at church, most recently Second Reformed Church. She enjoyed music and traveling, and was also a great hostess to many. Mary-Ann’s family and extended family were the absolute joy of her life. She was a caring, loving, generous person and an inspiration and mentor to many.
Mary-Ann is survived by her children, Bob (Patty) Kolkema, Mindy (Frank) Madrid, Jeff (Jackie) Kolkema; 12 grandchildren: David, Aaron (Tara), and Alicia (Robert) Kolkema, Amy (Vic) Coletta, Chris (Brian) Erickson, Steve Kolkema, Jenny (Aaron) Savage, Frank and Ron Madrid, Jordan and Chelsea Vaccariello and Nathan (Bailey) Kolkema; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; sister, Betty Bierman; brother, Bob (Sherry) VanBemmelen; sister-in-law, Judy VanBemmelen; and brothers-in-law, Dick Bierman and Roger (Linda) Kolkema. In addition, she was blessed by a very special relationship with Bob and Marilyn LeClair and family.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Ron, Dave, and Steve Kolkema; brother, Fred VanBemmelen; and brother and sister-in-law, Dick (Shirley) Kolkema.
The Celebration of Life for Mary-Ann will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 30, 2021 at Second Reformed Church with Pastor Dan Eisnor officiating. Friends and family may greet the family from 5 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Second Reformed Church Family Life Center, and 1 hour prior to the service on Friday. Masks and social distancing will be required. Interment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery.
