Mark Edward Slager, age 69 of Spring Lake, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2020 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was born on June 3, 1951 in Holland, MI to the late Glenn and Leona (Kline) Slager. Mark married Suzanne Johnson on September 18, 1970 in Grand Haven. Just last month, they celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Mark worked with his father in the Slager Concrete business for many years and was later employed by the Grand Haven Area Public Schools as Lead Custodian. He was a member of the Grand Haven Gospel Chapel where he served as an Awana instructor. Mark was a great wood worker, building custom bird houses for his family and friends. He also enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, and especially Corvette cars.
Mark is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sue; his daughter, Lisa (Rick) Skorupski of Spring Lake; and his son, Scott (Tracy) Slager of Fruitport. Also surviving are four grandsons: Tyler (Kaylee) Essenberg, Caleb Slager, Shane and Dylan Skorupski; two brothers, Gary (Jan) Slager and Brian Slager, both of Spring Lake; sister-in-law, Rhonda (John) Van Overen of Spring Lake; many nieces and nephews; and his African Grey Parrot, Buddy.
He was preceded in death by his precious grandson, Gabe Slager.
The Memorial Service for Mark will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Grand Haven Gospel Chapel with Pastor Ken Shady officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at church. Social distancing and masks will be required at all Services. Interment will be in Spring Lake Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Mark’s name may be given to the Grand Haven Gospel Chapel.
