Marilynn Dornbos Obituary

Marilynn L. Dornbos, age 95, of Spring Lake passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Heartwood Lodge Hospice House.  Marilynn was born October 2, 1923 to Arthur L. and Rilla (Peck) Hight in Decatur, Illinois.  She received her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Illinois.  Upon graduating, she worked at the Peoria Star (newspaper) and later at Thomas Publishing in Springfield, Illinois.  On December 22, 1949, Marilynn married Ervan Dornbos.  Two years later they moved to his hometown of Grand Haven, Michigan where she became a homemaker.  Her husband preceded her in death on April 13, 1977.  Marilynn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Grand Haven.  She enjoyed reading, gardening, travel, being around the water, and chocolate in all of its forms.  She will be remembered as a very caring person with a great sense of humor.  Marilynn is survived by her daughter Nancy and son-in-law Neal Hansen of Spring Lake, and her three grandchildren:  Courtney, Katie, and Ken.  A private graveside service has taken place.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Spring Lake District Library.
