Marilyn Jean Manting, age 91, of Grand Haven, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Grand Pines Assisted Living. She was born on May 3, 1935, in Holland, MI, to the late Harold and Marguerite (VanArkel) Swartz. Marilyn married Peter Manting, Sr. on September 10, 1955, in Grand Haven. He preceded her in death on December 3, 2004, after 49 years of marriage.
Marilyn graduated from Grand Haven High School and was a lifelong resident of the area. She faithfully attended First Reformed Church and was on the League of Women Voters and served on the boards of both the Salvation Army and Tri-Cities Ministries.
Marilyn was a member of the Spring Lake Country Club for many years and was a volunteer at the American Red Cross. She was also an avid reader and loved to play bridge in her women's bridge league. Most of all, Marilyn loved her family.
Marilyn will be lovingly remembered and missed by her two daughters, Susan (Dan) Chittenden of Spring Lake and Katherine (Gary) Pierce of Ocala, Florida; son, Peter (Brenda) Manting of Ludington; six grandchildren: Ben (Lauren) Manting, Sarah Chittenden (Donald Caraccio), Emily (Cameron) First, George (Megan) Chittenden, Cheryl (Anthony) Gillan, and Krista (Charles) Riggan; seven great-grandchildren: Micah, Oliver, and Esther Manting, Maxwell and Otto Chittenden, and Clara and Elliott First; sister, Sally Anderson; as well as several nieces, nephews, and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter; her twin sister, Marjory Mackenzie; and brother-in-law, Dr. Donald Mackenzie.
The Celebration of Life for Marilyn will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 8, 2026, at First Reformed Church with Pastor John Kenny officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests Memorial Contributions be made to the Salvation Army-Grand Haven, First Reformed Church, or the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation.
