Manuel "MJ" John Celestin

Manuel John “MJ” Celestin, age 89 of Grand Haven, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 23, 2023. He was born in India in 1934. MJ married Phyllis in 1960. She preceded him in death on September 17, 2010, after 50 years of marriage.

MJ earned a Bachelor's and Master’s degree from Kerala University in India, and obtained a Master’s degree in Chemistry from Western Michigan University. MJ worked as a Chemist for 45 years until his retirement. MJ had a joy for living and had a great sense of humor. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

MJ was very intellectual with a strong work ethic. He immersed himself in various hobbies and interests such as building, traveling, fishing, and gardening and was also a great cook. He loved Lake Michigan and was a strong swimmer and soccer player.

MJ is remembered and survived by his five children: Paul, John, Joseph (Cassie), Philip (Elizabeth) and Maureen; grandchildren: Reilly, Liam, Charlotte, Ava, Amelia, and many other youngsters.

MJ will be remembered as the most wonderful father and grandfather. He and his wife, Phyllis will remain forever near and dear to our hearts. We will cherish our memories together always, until we see them again on the shores of heaven.  

The Funeral Service for MJ will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at Klaassen Family Funeral Home with Pastor Kurt Henry officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 11:00 to 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
