Lola Lee (Green) Yocum was born on November 20, 1931 in York, Nebraska to George and Mildred (Mason) Green. She died January 20, 2018 in Spring Lake, Michigan. She grew up in many towns in Nebraska following her father who was a Road Master for the C.B. & Q. railroad. Lola graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School in 1949. She graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1955 with a degree in Home Economics. She returned to the University to become certified as an elementary school teacher. Lola taught kindergarten for Lincoln Public Schools at Mary O’Connor, Huntington, and Clinton Elementary. She was a supervisor for the Follow Through program. She also taught Head Start in Comstock, Michigan.

On November 20, 1954 she married Gordon L. Yocum at First E.U.B. Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. One year and a day later a daughter, Gayle June was born. In 1956 they built a house at 5320 Lexington and lived there for 14 years. They moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan, where they resided until 1976, and then they returned to Lincoln, Nebraska. For the next 40 years they lived in a townhouse on the north side of Lincoln. In June 2017 they moved to Spring Lake, Michigan to be near their daughter and son-in-law.

She was active in the United Methodist Church serving as a Sunday School teacher, officer in United Methodist Women, Certified Lay Speaker and Kitchen Coordinator. She organized Thanksgiving and Easter dinners for northeast Lincoln serving 150-200 people each holiday for 9 years.

She enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, and was a member of three Bridge groups. She enjoyed knitting and made more than 400 hats for the American Cancer Society, and Saint Elizabeth Hospital. She also made prayer shawls for distribution by the Church to those who were ill or hospitalized.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Gordon, her daughter Gayle and son-in-law Roger Cox, (Spring Lake, Michigan) her grandchildren Anna Cox (Spring Lake, Michigan) and Russell Cox (Kingman, Arizona), and many other friends and relatives. The Memorial Service for Lola will be held on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 12:00 PM at Taylor (Calvary) United Methodist Church in Taylor, Nebraska.
