Lois Elaine Pickel, age 83, of Grand Haven, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at Trinity Health Muskegon Hospital. She was born on February 26, 1941, in Muskegon, MI, to the late William and Lois (Rollenhagen) Holmgren. Elaine married Russell Pickel on June 4, 1960, in Muskegon. He preceded her in death on April 25, 2001, after 40 years of marriage.
Elaine graduated from Muskegon High School and attended classes at Hope College. She worked as a location specialist for Ottawa County for many years, where she retired.
Elaine was a Harvest Church Spring Lake member and a talented musician who loved to play her piano. She also enjoyed being out in her garden, going out with her friends, and keeping active by doing Tai Chi. Most important to her was her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Elaine will be lovingly remembered and missed by her daughter, Michelle (Kurt) Gillespie; her adopted son/grandson, Nicholas Lee; her five grandchildren: Lauren, Ben, and Christopher Elzinga, Audry (Jamie) Neitring, Doug Gillespie; great-grandchildren, Duke and Waylon Neitring; brothers, Manfred “Fred” Holmgren and Kraig (Debra) Holmgren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and daughter, Heidi (Pickel) Elzinga in 2022.
The Memorial Service for Elaine will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at Klaassen Family Funeral Home with Pastor Craig Gurr officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 11th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Interment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
