Obituary

Lois C. Ott, age 87 of Grand Haven, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Robbinswood Assisted Living. Her family would like to thank the Robbinswood staff for the outstanding care she received while residing there.

Lois was born on June 1, 1933 in Grand Haven, MI to the late James and Christine (Meeusen) DeKraker. Lois was a graduate of Grand Haven High School and went on to graduate from Muskegon School of Business. She married Herman J. Ott on September 11, 1954 in Grand Haven, and she and Herman owned their own accounting and income tax business in Grand Haven for over 40 years.

Lois was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and St. Paul’s United Church of Christ where she served as Deacon, played in the Bell Choir, and sang as an alto for over 60 years in the choral choir. She served on various committees, including the “Church Mice” Committee, creating church banners. Lois enjoyed serving as co-chair of the GHHS Class of 1951 Reunion Committee, and was a talented seamstress. For thirty years, she spent many hours with her friend, Evelyn Klukos, selling their “Mostly Mice” pieces in crafts shows around the state. Lois enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening, and spending time at her Lake Michigan home with family, friends, and her dogs, Elsa, Elliot, and Benson.

Lois will be lovingly remembered and missed by her daughter, Patricia (Paul) Christopher of Grand Haven; her son, James H. (Lori) Ott of Spring Lake; grandchildren, Tyler and Ashley Ott; step-grandchildren, Suzie (Peter) Hett and Max (Jill) Christopher; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Ott; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman on May 15, 2008, after 53 years of marriage.

A Memorial Service will take place later at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, and Interment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery.
