Lois J. Nietering, age 70 of Grand Haven, MI and Mesa, AZ, passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at home in Grand Haven. She was born on July 31, 1951 in Harvey, IL to the late Neal and Edna (Ver Dught) Den Besten. Lois married Roger Nietering on August 10, 1974 in South Holland, IL.
Lois worked as a Special Education school teacher in Dolton, Illinois for 30 years. After retiring in 2006, she and Roger began spending winters near her parents in a retirement community in Mesa, AZ. Although Lois enjoyed playing golf and belonging to several book clubs, her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Covenant Life Church in Grand Haven, and attended Love of Christ Lutheran Church in Mesa, AZ.
Lois is lovingly remembered and missed by her husband of 47 years, Roger; her daughter, Christine (Nicholas) Tubb of Seattle, WA; son, Daniel (Tamiko) Nietering also of Seattle; her three beloved grandchildren: Lily & Miles Tubb, and Miwa Nietering; her sister, Linda (Alan) Jones of Burr Ridge, IL; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Walker of Mesa, AZ, Barb (Jim) Andrus of Grand Haven, and Irene Den Besten of Bloomington, IL; and brother-in-law, Doug Nietering of Grand Rapids.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ray Den Besten.
A private family graveside service for Lois will be held. Memorial Contributions may be made to a charity of donor’s choice.
