Leonard R. D’Oyly, age 74 Grand Haven, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2020. He was born on February 28, 1946 to the late Edwin and Doris (Tatroe) D’Oyly in Grand Haven, MI.
Leonard was a member of St. Paul’s United Church and worked for Bastian Blessing Company and was a union official for the carpenters union for 24 years. In 1969, he was a major part of the founding of Robinson Township Fire Department and served as the Charter Fire Chief until 1973. Leonard was the owner of Hot Diggity Dogs restaurant from 1988 – 1991. He sold fire equipment for West Shore Services from 1991 – 1996 and retired from MLP Manufacturing in 2002. Leonard enjoyed watching NASCAR and Red Wing’s hockey but especially loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving family: daughter, Michelle (Phil) Hunter of Grand Haven; sons, Dennis (Suzy) D’Oyly of Grand Haven, Michael (Susan) Waugh of Spring Lake; grandchildren, Laura LaFountain, Andrew LaFountain, Megan Hunter, Chris D’Oyly, Devin D’Oyly, Phil Waugh, Nicole Waugh, Aaron Waugh; he was “Uncle Biggs” to, Tim (Kim) Sullivan of Walkill, NY, and Tony (Laura) Peterson of Glenview, IL; brother, Robert (Sandra) D’Oyly of Mears, MI; sister-in-law, Betty D’Oyly of Grand Haven; several nieces and nephews; and life-long friend, Laurie Werschem.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Bruins; and brother, Edwin D’Oyly.
A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at Grand Haven Township Lakeshore Cemetery with Pastor Michael Waugh officiating.
Memorial Contributions in Leonard’s name may be made to Robinson Township Fire Department.
