Lawrence (Larry) Allen Rozneck went home to Jesus on Sunday, October 4, 2020, with his son and daughter at his side. He was born on March 28, 1946 and raised in Grand Haven.
Upon completing High School, he enlisted in the US Air Force, serving in a Civil Engineering squadron. He was stationed in Arkansas, and was then deployed to Vietnam during the Vietnam War, and returned state-side to Mississippi to complete his service to our country. Lawrence rose to the rank of Buck Sergeant and subsequently earned an honorable discharge. He was a proud Veteran and had many struggles like so many other Veterans.
Larry married the love of his life, Helen Louise Fricke (Honey Bunny) in 1972. They had two children; Mary Louise, born in 1976, and Michael John, born in 1978. He was very proud of his children and never wasted an opportunity to say his son is a Chief Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force and his daughter is a Registered Nurse, Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Larry was a man with a strong work ethic that began at 5 years old, picking blueberries. He continued to work by picking strawberries and celery, and trimming pine trees. He participated in co-op in the 11th and 12th grades at the Grand Haven Civil Engineering Department, where he learned valuable skills he utilized for his career. Larry worked at Prein & Newhoff - Consulting Civil Engineering Firm, Manpower, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Hydrographic Surveying) until he was granted full disability from the Veterans Administration.
Larry had an artistic talent in his early and middle years, and leaves behind drawings and paintings his family will cherish. He was never far from his rosary, diet coke, tape, notebook and pen. Playing pool, making lists, math/geometry problems, and model making were some of his favorite pastimes.
Larry lived at Robbinswood Assisted Living for many years and could be seen making the rounds in Grand Haven on the Harbor Transit to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Meijer, D&W, Burger King, Loutit Library, Morning Star, Four Pointes, and Power House Gym to name a few. He was the big lovable guy in the wheelchair with a warm smile; countless kind people crossed his path. Larry never wasted an opportunity to say, “I’m sorry” or, “I love you.” Love and Forgiveness: What our Lord Jesus Christ taught us. He will be sorely missed for his warm smile, hugs, strong but gentle hands and unforgettable laugh. We pray he was surrounded by Angels to take him Home. Special thanks to Medi-Lodge of Holland (where he lived in his final years), Hospice of Holland, and Fr. David Gross of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Spring Lake.
Larry leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Helen Rozneck; daughter, Mary (Gordon) Brown; son, Michael (Karrie) Rozneck; granddaughter, Farrah Una Rozneck; grandson, Kingston Lee Rozneck; sisters, Judy (Tom) Bazany, Kim (Mike) Gelderman; brother, Jim Rozneck; in-laws, Donna Rozneck, Glenda Fricke, Phylis Baas, Bruce (Tammy) Fricke; several aunts and uncles; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy Rozneck; brothers and sister-in-law, Fred Fricke and Richard (Sharon) Fricke; and brother-in-law, Gerald Baas.
Remember Larry when driving the backroads and always keep your washer fluid and gas tank full.
The Funeral Mass for Larry will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Spring Lake, with Fr. David Gross officiating.
