Lawrence “Larry” Charles Norman, age 76, of Grand Haven, MI went to meet his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, while vacationing in Florida. He was born on June 8, 1947, in Detroit, MI, to the late Charles and Mercedes (Loeffler) Norman. Larry married Jan Berg on January 26, 1980, in Livonia, MI.
Larry graduated from Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School, served in the United States Army from 1967-1969, including a tour in Vietnam, and in his 40’s, went back to school at Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary to study for ministry.
Larry was in sales for 35 years before joining Forgotten Man Ministries as the full-time chaplain at the Ottawa County Jail. After retirement, he became a volunteer chaplain for Harbor Hospice and continued to minister at the Ottawa County Jail as a volunteer.
Larry was a member of Lakeshore Baptist Church for over 36 years and served as an Usher, Adult Sunday School Teacher, a Small Group leader, and he loved to meet with people one on one.
Larry loved ministry, grilling, reading, walking at the waterfront in Grand Haven, and was a big Detroit Tigers fan. He was known as a people person who loved to spend time with family and friends.
Larry is forever remembered and missed by his loving wife of 44 years, Jan; daughter, Teresa (Matthew) Metzler; three sons: Chris (Kathy) Norman, Joshua (Tarryn) Norman, and Brad (Cait) Norman; nine grandchildren; his sister, Debbie (Terry) Bricker; four brothers: Jerry, David, Steven (Kim), and Doug (Julie) Norman; and in-laws: Joe (Jeanette) Berg, Paul (Paula) Berg, and Kathy Norman (Bill Norman’s wife).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings: Arlene LeClair, Bill Norman, and Linda Thiel; sister-in-law, Loretta Norman; and brothers-in-law, Don LeClair and Frank Thiel.
The Funeral Service for Larry will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Lakeshore Baptist Church (17306 Church Hill St., Grand Haven, MI, 49417) with Pastors Chris Norman and Nate Birkholz officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Thursday, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery.
