Laura Grace Sterenberg, age 92, of Grand Haven, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Grand Pines Assisted Living. She was born on February 18, 1932, in Muskegon, MI, to the late Alex and Grace (VanderZyl) Fiet.
Shortly after Laura’s graduation from high school, she met Larry H. Sterenberg. They were married on June 4, 1955, in Muskegon, MI. He preceded her in death on November 10, 2004, after 49 years of happy marriage.
Laura began her career working in a secretarial position at Sealed Power. She then worked for the Muskegon Chronicle, Kalamazoo Public Schools, Seven’s Paint store in Grand Haven, and retiring from Calvin Meeusen CPA after 25 years.
Laura was a longtime member of First Reformed Church where she also sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She was involved in her community in various capacities including serving on the board of directors for the Grand Haven Salvation Army for many years. She enjoyed quilting and watching the Michigan State Spartans.
Laura will be lovingly remembered and missed by her two sons, Lane Sterenberg of Muskegon and Dr. Michael (Karen) Sterenberg of Grand Haven; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her brother, David Fiet of Muskegon.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Richard (Marilyn) Sterenberg; and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Fiet and Gladys Sterenberg.
The Memorial Service for Laura will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at First Reformed Church with Pastor John Kenny officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions in Laura’s memory may be made to First Reformed Church or The Grand Haven Salvation Army.
