Larry Baumgart Obituary

Larry James Baumgart, age 63, long time resident of Grand Haven (and Spring Lake), went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Poppen House, after losing his battle with cancer. He was born on May 19, 1959 in Grand Haven, MI to the late Eugene and Leona (Boyk) Baumgart.

Larry graduated from Grand Haven High School, Class of 1978, and was a lifetime resident of the area. He worked as delivery driver for Cook’s Appliances in Grand Haven for 20 plus years, and then worked for Grand Haven 9 movie theatre, and Sugarloaf Vending. Larry was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church for many years, and former long-time member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Larry enjoyed watching football, and was an especially big fan of the Grand Haven Buccaneers, attending almost every game they played over many years. He enjoyed tinkering in the garage and did small engine repair on lawnmowers and snow-blowers for many years.

Larry was especially proud of his 34 years of sobriety, his extensive Coca-Cola memorabilia collection, and being the sole caregiver for his mother, Leona for the last 25 years before her passing in 2021. Larry had a caring heart and was a generous neighbor, donating his time and resources to help neighbors with residential maintenance, and putting out water dishes on the bike trail for those walking their dogs. He will be remembered by many.

Larry is survived by two siblings, Karen Hildreth of Grand Haven and Al Baumgart of Spring Lake; sister-in-law, Melodee Baumgart of Florida; nieces and nephews: Kevin (Annemarie) Baumgart, Erica (Jason) Meyer, Jaime (Mike) Nienhouse, Jason (Maria) Baumgart, Ashley (Josh) Sitzer, Sara (Jason) Heathcott, Bryan Hildreth (Shannon Nowak), and Jill (Jeremy) Bender; several great-nieces and nephews, including his goddaughter, Alexis Baumgart; several extended family; and good friend, Kyle Cook.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Leona Baumgart; two brothers, Ronald and Dale Baumgart; sisters-in-law, Beth and Chris Baumgart; brother-in-law, Dan Hildreth; nephew, Scott Baumgart; and several aunts and uncles.

A Funeral Mass for Larry will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 18, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Fr. Bill Vander Werff officiating. Interment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery.
