We are sad to announce, Kurt Alan Wipperfurth, age 80 of Ormond Beach, FL, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 in Spring Lake. He was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1941 in Grand Haven, MI to the late William Joseph and Elizabeth Alna (McLellan) Wipperfurth.
Kurt graduated from Grand Haven High School in 1959 and Michigan State University in 1963. After graduating from college, he settled in Spring Lake, MI and started a construction company, C-Way. Kurt then married a lovely girl he met in college, Janice Marion (LaTourette) Wipperfurth, on November 6, 1965. She preceded him in death on June 9, 2015 after 49 years of marriage. Kurt and Janice began raising their family in Spring Lake, and then relocated to Ormond Beach in 1983, after Kurt’s construction company was contracted to build several high-rise bridges on Florida’s East Coast, including the Granada Bridge in Ormond Beach.
Kurt was the President of The Michigan Road Builders’ Association circa 1977; a member of YPO, The Spring Lake Yacht Club, The Spring Lake Country Club, Rotary, and Tomoka Christian Church. Besides delighting in his grandchildren, just for fun, he swam the Butterfly in high school, raced MCs in Spring Lake, loved to cheer on the MSU Spartans without fail, and for the past couple of years, has played pickle ball nearly every day! Kurt brought joy and laughter to all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.
Kurt is lovingly remembered and survived by his three children: daughters, Melissa (Greg) Lundeberg of Spring Lake and Barbara Oddo-Wipperfurth of Ormond Beach, FL; son, Kurt Guy Wipperfurth of Colorado; his nine beloved grandchildren who called him “Papa,” Dillon (Rigby) Stose Coleman, Joey Oddo, Mackenzie (Isaac) Oddo Wagner, Cassidy Baumann, Pike Wipperfurth, Hunter Oddo (who shares his Christmas birthday), Reed Wipperfurth, Brooke Oddo, and Jackson Oddo; one great-grandson, Stose Coleman (and one great-grandchild on the way from Mackenzie and Isaac Wagner, whose wedding Kurt officiated on October 2, 2021); sister, Barbara DeWitt; sisters-in-law, Colleen Malcolm and Lynette LaTourette; as well as eight nieces and one nephew.
In addition to his parents and wife, Kurt was preceded in death by his two brothers, William and Jerry; two sisters-in-law, Anita and Diana; a brother-in-law, Kenneth DeWitt; and niece, Elizabeth (Beth Ann) Wipperfurth.
The Funeral Service for Kurt will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Spring Lake Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dan Anderson and Pastor Wally Harrison officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Spring Lake Township Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Reception at the Spring Lake Yacht Club will follow at 5:00 p.m.
A Celebration of Life will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Tomoka Christian Church in Ormond Beach, Florida with reception to follow at the Bear Creek Clubhouse from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
