Kenneth Edward Van Dyke, age 75 of Grand Haven, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 22, 1946 in Grand Rapids, MI to the late Edward and Grace (Prosch) Van Dyke. Ken married Sheryl Casemier on December 30, 1972 in Grand Haven.
Ken graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School and Calvin College. He taught at Grand Haven Christian School for 11 years and then became co-owner of Casemier’s Shop-Rite in Coopersville. He later retired as production manager at Kandu Industries.
Ken was a long time active member of First Christian Reformed Church where he served as past Elder and present Deacon. He was former director of the choir, and very involved with the Praise Team, Metal Recycle, and Appliance Ministries at the church. Ken was a true servant of God, ensuring the money collected from the various ministries was tithed back into the community.
Ken enjoyed music, and played the saxophone with the Grand Rapids Symphonic Band for 20 years. He was a family man who will be fondly remembered by those who knew him as a great husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Ken is lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 48 years, Sherri; his three daughters, Allison (J.P.) Dowling of Spokane, WA, Aimee (Rich) Babb of Brighton, MI, and Abbie (Jim) Kooima of Grand Haven, MI; his eight grandchildren: Brady, Mack, and Collin Dowling, Henry and Essie Babb, and Wesley, Lucas, and Addison Kooima; and his two sisters, Carol Van Dyke of Culver City, CA and Beth (Jay) Sowers of Grand Rapids, MI.
The Celebration of Life for Ken will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 27, 2021 at First Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Leonard Troast and Mr. Art Tuls officiating. Visitations will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 26th, at Klaassen Family Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Grand Haven Christian School Music Program or First Christian Reformed Church Appliance Ministry.
