Judith Anne (Lemmen) Vandermate

Judith “Judy” Anne Vandermate, age 82, of Grand Haven, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Lakeshore Assisted Living-Sierra Residence. She was born on August 13, 1942, in Grand Rapids, MI, to the late Robert and Anne (Huttema) Lemmen, Sr. Judy married Charles “Chuck” Vandermate on October 12, 1961.

Judy graduated from Coopersville High School and attended nursing school for one year before marrying her high school sweetheart. She and Chuck raised their family in Allendale where they were active in their church and community. Judy helped her husband with his office work for their business, Vandermate Plumbing. They were also foster parents for many years. In 1991 they moved to Rudyard, MI where Judy led many Bible Study groups throughout the years, and loved birdwatching, tending to her flower gardens, and enjoyed volunteering for Crisis Pregnancy Center. She also ran the non-profit, Women of Today for some time.

Judy will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband of 63 years, Chuck; daughter, Kristin (Tim) Wolffis; four sons: Scott (Laura) Vandermate, Randall (Carol) Vandermate, Brian (Susan) Vandermate, and Jason Vandermate (Danielle Sego); 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Lisa (Andy) Robinson; brothers: Robert (Karen) Lemmen, Jr., Larry (Diane) Lemmen, Loren (Ruth) Lemmen, Rick (Sue) Lemmen; brother-in-law, Jeff Simbob; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Denise Simbob; and her brother-in-law, David Vandermate.

A Memorial Visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., at Klaassen Family Funeral Home. Interment will be at Allendale Township Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Compass Pregnancy and Family Resource Center in Sault Ste. Marie.
